Agree with you on the underwhelming nature of the Noble Pils. Had decent expectations but yeah...it falls flat in the crispness department for sure. Which would make up for the fact that it's also very mellow, hop wise. Regardless, glad SA didn't release another fruit wheat beer instead!

Cheers!

I had the opportunity to taste Noble Pils for the first time at a beer festival last weekend. http://michaelagnew.hoppress.com/2010/01/25/beer-dabbler-showcase-at-the-st-paul-winter-carnival/

I think it can't be approached as a classic german or bohemian pils. It's more of a light, refreshing, summer session beer with interesting and unexpectedly citrus character. It is replacing the White Ale afterall.

If you accept this beer as what it is, it's really quite tasty.

My understanding is that it's a Czech-style Pils, which may explain the relative maltiness.

"Downtown is where good beer is sent to die a slow, warm death." Pretty much why I stopped going there. I'll pay a premium for hard to find beers, but not when they are poorly taken care of. Thankfully, other options are now available.
